Construction of Multimodal Goods and Fuel Delivery Hub - year of works

Construction of Multimodal Goods and Fuel Delivery Hub / Katowice Airport Investment Program for 2024–2032

In September 2025, one year passed since the beginning of the construction of the multimodal goods and fuel delivery hub with railway siding connection at Katowice Wojciech Korfanty International Airport in Pyrzowice, Poland. The project is co-funded by the European Union as part of "Connecting Europe Facility" (CEF) 2021–2027 Military Mobility. Consortium formed by Mostostal Kraków S.A. and Budimex S.A. is responsible for construction works.

A press briefing summarizing the scope of finished works took place at the construction site. Jakub Kościesza – director of contracts team at Mostostal Kraków S.A., Grzegorz Warych – contract manager at Budimex S.A. and Artur Tomasik – President of the Board of the Upper Silesian Aviation Group, the company managing Katowice Airport, participated in the event.

Construction of the Multimodal Goods and Fuel Delivery Hub will enable the handling of various types of goods, including aviation fuel, and the supply of fuel to all aircraft operating at Katowice Airport. New infrastructure will allow to limit road transportation in favour of railway, which is part of the process of supporting the development of a sustainable transportation system. The new infrastructure will be prepared to handle alternative fuels (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) to improve energy efficiency and reduce climate emissions. The multimodal goods and fuel delivery hub at Katowice Airport will be adjusted for dual civil-military use, thus allowing delivery and continuity of operations during on-going military operations. The entire project has an interoperable nature, meaning that the new infrastructure will be intended for use by all interested entities using the airport's services, both civilian and military, as well as entities active in the region.

The cost of the project, including the fourth tank, is over PLN 130M net, and the amount of EU support – in accordance with the grant agreement signed by GTL S.A. and the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment (CINEA) – will amount to 50% of eligible costs (up to EUR 10.09 million). Construction of the multimodal goods and fuel delivery hub is scheduled to conclude in the second half of 2026.
