Mostostal Kraków S.A. and Budimex S.A. to Build Multimodal Goods and Fuel Delivery Hub at Katowice Airport / Katowice Airport Investment Program for 2024–2028

On 24 July 2024, The Upper Silesian Aviation Grou  (GTL S.A.) - the company managing Katowice Wojciech Korfanty International Airport in Pyrzowice - signed an agreement with construction works contractor for "Construction of a Multimodal Goods and Fuel Delivery Hub with Railway Siding Connection at Katowice Airport." A consortium formed by Mostostal S.A. and Budimex won the tender.

As part of the agreement entered into with the consortium, construction works will take place in south-eastern part of Katowice Airport, resulting in a railway siding connecting Katowice Airport with the Central Rail Line (Centralna Magistrala Kolejowa) via railway line 182 (Tarnowskie Góry – Zawiercie). An unloading railway siding allowing to load and unload goods and fuel will be the heart of the investment; it will abut three 1000 m³ containers and unloading stands for fuel trucks. In the area of the hub located in the restricted part of the airport, three stands with fuelling pumps for aviation fuel trucks will be created. The total cost of the agreement, i.e. realisation of construction works related to the Multimodal Goods and Fuel Delivery Hub, is PLN 144.3M gross.

Construction works, start-up and acquisition of all required administrative decisions allowing to use the Multimodal Goods and Fuel Delivery Hub will all take a total of up to 23 months from the moment of signing the Agreement.  In accordance with the schedule, "Construction of Multimodal Goods and Fuel Delivery Hub with Railway Siding at Katowice Airport" should conclude not later than by 30 June 2026. The project is co-funded by the European Union as part "Connecting Europe Facility" (CEF) 2021-2027 Military Mobility; the grant constitutes up to 50% of eligible costs.
